Gmail has a lot of cool technology. It is a great product but it is not perfect. It’s really easy to argue that something is not perfect. 😉

1. encryption support, I would like to see more people making use of encryption
2. digital signatures.
3. It’s Google.

I would like to elaborate on #3. Most people don’t think twice of about the security of their email. Real estate agents deal with a lot of sensitive data. If sensitive data is stored on Gmail, you don’t know who is reading it, how long it will be stored, etc. Google is an American company. Through the Patriot Act, the American Government can read anything they please in your email.

That kind of scares me a bit. It can be argued if any email system is any good, secure, etc. SMTP, POP3, IMAP, etc are all unencrypted protocols. I never check my email at wireless cafes or through untrusted networks. Too dangerous…. where is my tinfoil hat?

Incorporating the absurdly useful calendar and the ability to share spreadsheets and text documents makes the system unbelievably good. The alias feature is perfect. My only complaint about the system is that I don’t know how to switch signatures for each alias I use. Once they’ve got that …
